I plan on spending at least an hour a day working on these things.Ĭan you sight read or at least read music? Getting to the level you're talking about, reading will make it much faster and you will go much further if you've got sight reading down. being completely fluent with guitar (eg knowing where every note is, tuning guitar by ear etc.) Application of music theory into guitar (how to use scales and make chord progressions etc writing melodies and songs and jamming in general) Motor skills (good tone and control and speed, changing between chords) Tldr I am a noob guitarist, What is/how can I produce a good practice routine, so I can work on I know people say to just play songs you like as much as possible, but I really enjoy the "Practice" side of things and feel like I would be a lot more disciplined and efficient in achieving my goals with a clear written plan that I can follow. What is the best way to create a practice routine that around 1 hour long per day that allows me to work on my motor skills with the guitar in terms of fluency and good tone and also work on my theory and application so that I can eventually jam and write my own riffs and songs? I feel that I am stuck at a point where I can play songs I like via tab with some practice, but still don't have the muscle memory and motor skill to play in the groove and have good control over tone, I am also at the point where I know basic chords and scales am working on more barre chords and scales and the music theory that comes with it, however I am utterly unable to piece a nice groove together and jam or write something nice. For the past year I mostly do simple exercises and goals my teacher gives me and then noodle aimlessly or try to play some songs, however I want to set a clear and achievable goal and have a consistent hour long routine that I can do everyday to try and climb the learning curve as efficiently as possible. I feel from experience learning other things in the past, I need a more rigorous practice routine that I can consistently do every day in order to improve my playing and music skills. I have been playing guitar for almost a year now, and have been taking lessons every 2 weeks.
